 Mini Biography

Aaron Wells Peirsol is an American professional swimmer. He was born on July 23, 1983 in Irvine, California.

Peirsol made his international debut in the 2000 Sydney Olympics, where he earned his first international recognition at senior level. He finished second in the 200-meter backstroke after Lenny Krayzelburg, who dominated the backstroke events. In winning the Silver Medal, Peirsol was considered to be Krayzelburg's successor.

Peirsol won the Gold Medals in the 100-meter and 200-meter backstroke events of the 2004 Summer Olympics. He also helped the United States team win the Gold Medal in the 4x100-meter medley. In the 2008 Summer Olympics, Peirsol managed to defend his 100-meter backstroke title, however he lost to fellow American and teammate Ryan Lochte in the 200-meter backstroke. He helped the United States team defend the Gold Medal in the 4x100-meter medley.

At the 2009 World Aquatics Championships, Peirsol failed to make the final of the 100-meter backstroke. However, he was successful in winning the Gold Medal in the 200-meter backstroke in world record time, and in the 4x100-meter medley, as part of the United States relay team, also in world record time.
