Ángel Leopoldo Cabrera , also fondly called "El Pato" (The Duck), is an Argentine professional golfer who competes on the PGA Tour. He was born on September 12, 1969 in Córdoba, Argentina.
He is the first Argentine to win The Masters. He defeated Kenny Perry and Chad Campbell in a playoff to win the 2009 Masters, in Augusta, Georgia.
Cabrera also won the 2007 U.S. Open at Oakmont near Pittsburgh, his first major championship. He won the tournament with a 5-over, overtaking both Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk by just one stroke. He was Argentina's 1st golfer to capture the U.S. Open and the 2nd Argentine to win a major championship, along with Roberto De Vicenzo.
While De Vicenzo impressively held off Jack Nicklaus during the 1967 British Open, Cabrera held off both Woods and Furyk 40 years later.
Cabrera was awarded the 2007 Olimpia de Oro as Argentina's sportsperson of the year.
Cabrera won the 2007 U.S. Open with a 5-over 285, one shot better than Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk. He recorded two of only eight under-par rounds during the championship.
Cabrera won the 2009 Masters Tournament, beating Kenny Perry and Chad Campbell in a playoff on the second hole. On the first playoff hole, the 18th, Cabrera missed right of the fairway landing it directly behind a tree. On his second shot, the ball hit a tree about 30 yards ahead and settled in the center of the fairway. He and Perry both got up and down for par, while Campbell missed his par putt and was eliminated. On the second playoff hole, the 10th, Cabrera made par to defeat Perry, becoming the first Argentinian to win the Masters. He also became the first player ever to win a major using a belly putter.
