Brett Gardner is a professional baseball player currently signed as an outfielder for the New York Yankees of Major League Baseball (MLB). He was born on August 24, 1983, in Holly Hill, South Carolina.
Gardner was drafted out of the College of Charleston by the Yankees in the 3rd round of the 2005 MLB Draft. He spent three years in development in the minor leagues before making his Major League debut for the Yankees on June 30, 2008.
Gardner was named as the Yankees' starting center fielder in 2009, beating out Melky Cabrera for the position, after he finished spring training with an impressive .390 batting average. He was with the Yankees when they won the 2009 World Series against the Philadelphia Phillies.
