Carl Michael Edwards, II is a professional race car driver who currently competes in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and the NASCAR Nationwide Series. He was born on August 15, 1979 and grew up in Columbia, Missouri.
Edwards drives the #99 Aflac Ford Fusion in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. He also drives the #60 Scotts-Miracle Gro Ford Fusion in the NASCAR Nationwide Series. Both cars are driven under the banner of Roush Fenway Racing.
Edwards is known for his passion in developing his physique. As such, he has graced the covers of ESPN The Magazine and Men's Health shirtless, displaying his well-developed body.
Edwards grew up in Columbia, Missouri. Growing up, he watched his father, Carl Sr. racing modified stock cars and USAC midget sprint cars for over four decades, winning over 200 races.
In 1993, Edwards began racing Minicup cars all over the Midwest. By 1994, he won four feature races in the MMRA National Future stars Minicup series. He added a combined total of 14 wins from the 1995 and 1996 seasons. Carl attended the University of Missouri, and was a substitute teacher when he began racing in NASCAR.
