During the game, he recorded 10 strikeouts, allowed one walk and at one point retired 10 consecutive batters.
On October 21, 2007, in Game 7 of the ALCS, Matsuzaka retired the first eight batters and pitched well for 5 innings, allowing 2 runs. The Red Sox won 11-2 over the Cleveland Indians and advanced to the 2007 World Series, where they became the eventual champions against the Colorado Rockies.
