Daniel Cooley Uggla is a professional baseball player currently signed as a second baseman for the Florida Marlins of Major League Baseball (MLB). He was born on March 11, 1980 in Louisville, Kentucky.
Uggla was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 11th Round of the 2001 MLB Draft. He spent five seasons in the Diamondbacks' minor league system until he was selected by the Marlins via the Rule 5 Draft. On April 3, 2006 Uggla made his Major League debut for the Florida Marlins.
Uggla was immediately successful with the Marlins. On July 2, 2006, he made the 2006 All-Star game, being the only player to make the All-Star in the same season in which he had been a Rule 5 pick. He also was the recipient of the 2006 Sporting News NL Rookie of the Year, 2006 Players Choice NL Most Outstanding Rookie and the 2006 Topps Rookie All Star Second Baseman.
