 Mini Biography

David Douglas Garrard is a professional football quarterback currently signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars of the National Football League (NFL). He was born in East Orange, New Jersey on February 14, 1978.

Garrard entered the 2002 NFL Draft and was a 4th round pick by the Jaguars. He was the second string quarterback next to Mark Brunell and was even cited as the apparent successor. However, when Byron Leftwich joined the Jaguars as a rookie in 2003, Leftwich became the starting quarterback, while Garrard continued his role as the team's backup quarterback.

In the 2007 season, Garrard began to outplay Leftwich. He threw for 456 yards and one passing touchdown and another rushing touchdown. Head coach Jack Del Rio saw that Garrard's potential could provide the Jaguars a better shot at winning than injury prone Leftwich, so he named Garrard the starting quarterback on August 31, 2007. Leftwich was waived the next day.
