 Mini Biography

Erick Travez Dampier is a professional basketball player who currently plays center for the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was born in New Hebron, Mississippi on July 14, 1975.

Dampier is an NBA veteran of more than 11 years. He was drafted by the Indiana Pacers in 1996 and played for the Golden State Warriors from 1997 to 2004, which is arguably his most productive stint to date. In the 2004 off-season he signed with the Mavericks as a free agent.

Over the course of his career, Dampier was matched against the more prominent centers in the league, like Shaquille O'Neal and Amare Stoudemire, and was openly criticized as inconsistent and foul-prone. At some point in the 2005 NBA playoffs, O'Neal was heard to have mourned of his poor performance due to injury as "being similar to Dampier", though Dampier offered little response to the insult. The two met in the 2006 NBA Finals, where O'Neal and the Heat beat the Mavericks to win the 2006 NBA Championship.
