Theodore Ernest Els, or simply Ernie Els, is a South African professional golfer who competes in the PGA Tour. Standing at 1.9 meters, he is popularly called "The Big Easy" for his imposing physical stature as well as his smooth and efficient golf swing.
Els was born on October 17, 1969 in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Els won his first major championship at the 1994 U.S. Open over Colin Montgomerie and Loren Roberts in a sudden death playoff. He won his second US Open in 1997, once again over Colin Montgomerie at the Congressional Country Club. In 2002, he took home the Claret Jug by winning The Open Championship.
