Félix Abraham Hernández is a Venezuelan professional baseball player currently signed as a starting pitcher by the Seattle Mariners of Major League Baseball (MLB). He was born in Valencia, Venezuela on April 8, 1986.
At only 22 years of age, Hernández is already regarded as the best pitcher within the Mariner's pitching staff, and is widely anticipated to grow into one of the best pitchers in the league. In reference to the NBA basketball prodigy LeBron James, he was christened with the nickname "King Felix", which CEO Howard Lincoln is adamant on not using, to reduce the pressure it might have on Hernández.
In 2007, Hernández encountered a slump in his form, which later on, it was discovered, had predictable tendencies that are easily-scouted, thus he was hit hard by batters who knew what to expect. He then followed his coach's advice for randomness and so he dominated the next game, against the Athletics by pitching 8-innings of two-hit ball.
Hernández' pitching repertoire includes a hard curve, a changeup, and a slider which he can throw exceptionally well. His fastball has been clocked at 100 mph, although he began to shift away from relying exclusively on the overwhelming velocity to produce strikeouts, but rather on control and movement.
