 Mini Biography

George Edward Foreman is a boxing legend who existed in an era called "The Golden Age of Heavyweight Boxing". He is ranked one of the top fighters of all time and is famous for having faced other legends such as Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier.

Foreman was born on January 10, 1949 in Marshall, Texas. His size and power earned him the nickname "Big George".

Foreman gained his first worldwide recognition by defeating the undisputed champion Joe Frazier in a fight billed as the "Sunshine Showdown". Frazier was 29-0 (25 KO) and had just defeated Muhammad Ali. During the match with Frazier, Foreman knocked him down on the mat six times in the first two rounds, and the call made by color commentator Howard Cosell became one of the unforgettable lines in sports broadcasting history: "Down goes Frazier! Down goes Frazier! Down goes Frazier!"

Equally unforgettable was Foreman's final punch, an uppercut that connected with such force that it lifted Frazier off his feet and down to the canvas the sixth time. This match became inducted in the boxing annals as one of the largest upsets in the sport's history.

Foreman was involved again in another historic fight, against Muhammad Ali, in a fight promoted as "The Rumble in the Jungle". Foreman was now 40-0 (37 KO). He had KO'd Frazier and Ken Norton (one of the few who managed to defeat Ali) both in the second round.

When the two legends finally met in the ring, Ali employed a technique he would later christen "Rope-a-dope", allowing Foreman to expend his energy. By the 5th round, Foreman was obviously exhausted and Ali eventually knocked him out in the 8th round.

 Trivia & Notes

By 1989, Foreman became a successful business entrepreneur. He sold everything - from grills to mufflers on TV. His most successful venture is the George Foreman Lean Mean Fat Reducing Grilling Machine. He has divulged that this venture has made more money than his entire boxing career. He even suggested that he's better known for his grill than for his success in boxing.

Foreman also began the George Foreman brand of "Big and Tall" clothes through the retailer Casual Male in 2004. His clothing line features  the "comfort zone" technology, which allows expansion and contraction as the wearer's weight changes.
