James Anthony Happ, or J.A. Haoo (J.A. read as /Jay/), is a professional baseball player currently signed as pitcher for the Philadelphia Phillies of Major League Baseball (MLB). He was born in Spring Valley, Illinois on October 19, 1982.
Happ was a 3rd round, 92nd overall selection by the Philadelphia Phillies during the 2004 First-Year Player Draft. He was assigned to the Batavia Muckdogs in the short-season A-level New York-Penn League.
On June 30, 2007, Happ made his major league debut against the New York Mets. He was sent back to Triple-A later that season for his uninspiring performance. In 2008, Happ once again joined the Phillies when manager Charlie Manuel announced that Happ would replace Kyle Kendrick as starting pitcher. He recorded his first major league win against the Atlanta Braves, throwing six shutout innings for a 6-1 victory.
