John B. Holmes is a professional golfer who competes on the PGA Tour. He was born in Campbellsville, Kentucky on April 26, 1982.
Holmes started his professional golf career by joining the PGA Tour in 2005. He won the 2005 PGA Tour Qualifying Tournament and tied for 10th at the 2006 Sony Open, his first PGA Tour start. He then won the FBR Open, and in doing so, that made him the fastest PGA golfer to reach the $1 million mark in Career Earnings. This was his fourth PGA tournament.
After the victory, his form drastically fell. He never made it beyond the top 50 in major tournaments except twice in 2006 and twice in 2008. He ended the 2007 season 118th place on the money list.
Holmes is often criticized for favoring the "Grip it and Rip It" philosophy that's reminiscent of John Daly. He uses his distance to gain advantage and put him closer to the green. He is known to employ long distance hitting that's often in excess of 300 yards. His average of 312.7 yards ranked him 2nd place in driving distance, behind Bubba Watson.
