 Mini Biography

Jason Eugene Terry is a professional basketball player currently signed with the Dallas Mavericks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was born in Seattle, Washington on September 15, 1977.

Terry primarily plays as a shooting guard, although on occasions he will be given the ball to play as the point guard. Offensively, he relies on quick speed and jump shots to score, often scoring off the dribble.

At the start of the 2004-05 season, the Mavs brought in Terry, along with Erick Dampier, Jerry Stackhouse, and Devin Harris. The new roster strengthened the team defense, and the former run-and-gun style by playmaker Steve Nash shifted to a more careful and balanced style of play. As a result, the team became a better championship contender that season, and easily clinched a playoff berth with a 58-24 record. However, they were swept aside in the 2005 NBA Conference Semifinals by the Nash-led Phoenix Suns 4-2.

Terry's nickname "JET" is derived from his initials. He wears size 12½ basketball shoes.

 Early Life

Terry was born in Seattle, Washington. He was one of ten children raised by his mother, Andrea Cheatham and his father, Curtis Terry. One of his brothers, Curtis, plays college basketball for UNLV. He has a tattoo of the number 206 on his chest, recognizing the area code of his hometown. On February 2, 2007 Terry's number (31) was retired at Franklin High School.
