Jeffrey Jason Garcia , or Jeff Garcia, is a professional football player currently signed as a quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles of the National Football League (NFL).
Garcia started his professional football career in the Canadian Football League (CFL), with the Calgary Stampeders in 1994. He earned the starting spot midway through the 1995 season and set a team record with 546 passing yards and 6 passing touchdowns during a Labour Day game. He played three more years as the starting quarterback from 1996 to 1998 and compiled a record of 13-5, 10-8, and 12-6 respectively.
In his final season in the CFL in 1998, he led the team to the 86th Grey Cup win and was named the Grey Cup MVP. He was also nominated as the quarterback for the 1998 CFL All-Star game.
Garcia entered the NFL as a San Francisco 49ers backup QB to Steve Young. He ascended to the starting position early in the 1999 season, sharing the duty with Steve Stenstrom, after Young got sidelined due to injury. As a 49er, he became a Pro Bowler thrice, in 2000, 2001, and 2002.
Garcia signed with the Cleveland Browns in 2004 and with the Detroit Lions in 2005 but failed to make an impact. He saw a revitalization of his career when he signed for one-year with the Philadelphia Eagles on March 15, 2006. However, after a stellar season with the Eagles he wasn't offered a new contract, because the Eagles opted to commit to the younger A..J. Feeley.
Garcia joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for the 2007 campaign as the starting QB. He continued his stellar performance, averaging the 3rd highest quarterback rating in the league at the start of the 2007 regular season. He was named to his 4th Pro Bowl game, as a starting quarterback replacing Brett Favre on the NFC roster. The NFC won with 42-30.
On January 5, 2003, in a 2002-03 NFL Playoffs game against the New York Giants, Garcia starred in the 2nd largest comeback victory in NFL Playoff History, when he spearheaded an attack against the Giants with only 18 minutes in the game and 38-14 on the scoreboard in the Giants' favor.
With the Giants leading 38-14 in the 3rd quarter, Garcia led the 49ers to 25 unanswered points. He threw for 331 yards with 3 touchdowns, and also rushed for 60 yards and 1 touchdown, culminating to a 39-38 win for San Francisco. New York never recovered and the unbelievable comeback victory became Garcia's signature game of his career.
