John Joseph Harrington, Jr. is a professional football quarterback currently signed with the New Orleans Saints in the National Football League (NFL). He was born in Portland, Oregon on October 21, 1978.
Harrington graduated from the University of Oregon from an outstanding collegiate football career. He finished fourth in the 2001 Heisman Trophy race, was a first-team All-American, a Pac 10 Offensive Player of the Year, second-team honors from The Sporting News, and was one of five finalists for the 2001 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award. In a high note, EA Sports selected him to grace the cover of the NCAA Football 2003.
His stellar college career was the reason why, upon his arrival to Detroit he was first labeled as "Savior". After a string of remarkably poor seasons, he was considered one of the biggest draft bust in the NFL. Many speculations regarding his performance have arisen, such as lack of surrounding talent, poor coaching, and problematic offensive lines.
Still, despite his rocky tenure in Detroit, Harrington remained unwaveringly optimistic, and thus was dubbed sarcastically as "Joey Blue-Skies" and "Joey Sunshine" by the general media.
