Joshua Treadwell McCown is a professional football quarterback currently signed with the Carolina Panthers of the National Football League (NFL). He is the older brother of Luke McCown, a quarterback who plays for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
McCown was selected by the Arizona Cardinals in the third round, as the 81st overall pick during the 2002 NFL Draft. This was after he impressed the then-Cardinals coach Dennis Green. He had his best years in Arizona, playing as a second string quarterback to Jake Plummer. However, he saw a decline in his playing time when Kurt Warner was acquired in 2005.
McCown signed as a free agent in 2006 with the Detroit Lions. He signed for two seasons as a backup to Jon Kitna and was sometimes utilized as a receiver. He was traded to the Oakland Raiders in 2007.
On February 29, 2008, McCown signed a two year contract with the Miami Dolphins.
He was traded to the Carolina Panthers on August 29, 2008.
