Laveranues Leon Coles (pronounce as /la-VERN-ee-us/) is a professional football player currently signed as a wide receiver for the Cincinnatti Bengals of the National Football League (NFL). He was born in Jacksonville, Florida on December 29, 1977.
Coles entered the 2000 NFL Draft out of Florida State University and was selected by the New York Jets in the 3rd round, as the 78th overall pick. He played spectacularly in 2000 and 2001 seasons and joined the Washington Redskins in the 2002 off-season for a better salary.
In 2005, Coles insisted on a trade due to the team's lack of a deep passing game on offense and he was traded back to the Jets for Santana Moss. Coles was called upon to represent the NFC in the 2004 Pro Bowl in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Following his release by the Jets on February 25, 2009, Coles signed a four-year, $28 million contract with the Cincinnati Bengals.
