Matthew Thomas Cain is a professional baseball player currently signed as pitcher for the San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball (MLB). He was born on October 1, 1984 in Dothan, Alabama.
Prior the draft day, Cain was among the most coveted prospects and was named by Baseball America as the #13 prospect. He was selected by the Giants as the 25th overall pick in the first round during the 2002 MLB Draft.
The 2009 season was a career year for Cain. He went 10-2 with a 2.42 ERA and 93 strikeouts. By June 30 of that season, Cain had tied for the National League leader in Wins with 9, along with Chad Billingsley, Johan Santana, Jason Marquis and San Francisco teammate Tim Lincecum, although all three non-teammates have more losses than him.
