Michael Christopher McDowell is a professional race car driver who competes in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, the Nationwide Series and in the Camping World Truck Series. He currently drives part-time the #47 Tom's Snacks Toyota Camry for JTG Daugherty Racing in the Nationwide Series.
McDowell started his professional racing career with Karting. He moved up to the professional circuit into Formula Renault in the World Speed Motorsports in 2002. He scored several victories at Sebring and Road America en route to a runner-up finish in points in 2003, and a series championship victory in 2004.
McDowell made his NASCAR debut in the Craftsman Truck Series in 2007, driving for the #17 car for Darrell Waltrip Motorsports in the 2007 Kroger 200 race at Martinsville. That season, he moved up to the Busch Series (now Nationwide Series) as the team's developmental driver for the Sprint Cup team.
In 2008, after Dale Jarrett's retirement and David Reutimann's move to the #44 UPS car, McDowell drove the #00 car in the Sprint Cup Series. However, his contract wasn't renewed for the 2009 NASCAR season.
