 Mini Biography

José Miguel Torres Cabrera is a professional baseball player currently signed as a first baseman for the Detroit Tigers of Major League Baseball (MLB). He was born in Maracay, Aragua State, Venezuela on April 18, 1983.

Cabrera was signed by the Florida Marlins as an amateur free agent on July 2, 1999. On June 20, 2003, he made his Major League debut for the Marlins. Immediately in his rookie season, Cabrera embarked on an impressive run as the Marlins' cleanup batter. His postseason performance helped propel Florida to a World Series championship, where they defeated the New York Yankees and also landed Cabrera on the cover of ESPN The Magazine during the offseason.

On December 4, 2007, Cabrera was traded Detroit Tigers.

Cabrera has played an uncommonly large number of positions. He has made at least 100 starts at each of first base, third base, left field and right field. According to baseball-reference.com, Cabrera is putting up statistics comparable to baseball legends such as Hank Aaron and Ken Griffey, Jr. at age 26.
