 Mini Biography

Quentin Tremaine Jammer is a professional football cornerback currently signed with the San Diego Chargers of the National Football League (NFL). He was born in Angleton, Texas on June 19, 1979.

Jammer was drafted into the NFL by the San Diego Chargers as the 5th pick during the 2002 NFL Draft. His rookie season performance was hampered due to his holdout. He appeared in 14 games (started 4), posting 10 passes defended and 58 tackles.

In 2003, Jammer started in all 16 games of the season. He became the regular starter for San Diego in the ensuing seasons.

Jammer has been receiving flak for his lack of interceptions. From 2002 to 2008 he only logged 13 interceptions, although he had 99 passes defended. Kevin Acee wrote in San Diego Union-Tribune how:

"In recent seasons Jammer has been without a doubt the most vilified Charger. It was difficult to tell whether he was disliked (perhaps too mild a term) more for what he did (get called for a lot of penalties) or what he didn't do (make interceptions). It's possible in the past decade there has been only one other Charger (do we really need to say his name?) who drew more wrath from the faithful."

This came at odds on how the Chargers front office obviously wants Jammer in their team. In 2006, Jammer signed a contract extension that would keep him through 2012. The Chargers management said about Jammer:

"Quentin is a major part of our defense. He gets better every year. It's exciting to know he will continue to be a Charger. He's a true pro. He works year-round and has a great work ethic. He's tough and physical. He's terrific run supporter and cover guy. The best is yet to come for Jam."

Jammer believes in physical play, which leads to a lack of interceptions. He was quoted saying in the Chargers website:

"Interceptions are a great thing, but I pride myself on not letting my man catch the ball. If you keep the receiver from catching the ball, you've done your job. ‘Picks' are good and they get you in the Pro Bowl, but shutting down receivers gets wins and getting W's is all I'm concerned with. Wins take you to championships and that's what I want to do - get this team to a championship."
