 Mini Biography

Randall David Johnson, or Randy Johnson, is a professional baseball player currently signed as a pitcher for the San Francisco Giants of Major League Baseball (MLB). He is popular by the nickname "Big Unit" for his height; at 6'10", he is the second tallest athlete in the MLB after Jon Rauch.

Johnson made his Major League debut on September 15,1988 for the Montreal Expos, spending two seasons for the team, then was traded to the Seattle Mariners. He the Mariners' most feared pitcher in the lineup, purely on the virtue of his fastball, mound presence - and dramatic lack of control. While he led the American League in Walks for three consecutive seasons, he also led in Batsmen Hits for two seasons.

Johnson was traded on July 31, 1998 to the Houston Astros. The next season he signed a large $53-million, four-year deal with the Arizona Diamondbacks. It would later turned out as one of the best free agent signings in baseball history, as Johnson would win four consecutive Cy Young Awards in each of the seasons covered by the contract.

In 2004, Johnson, as a Diamondback, would become the oldest pitcher ever to throw a Perfect Game.

On January 6, 2005, Johnson was traded to the New York Yankees. On January 5, 2007, he was traded back to the Diamondbacks. On December 26, 2008, he signed a one-year deal with the San Francisco Giants.
