Career Honor:
#8 on Ring Magazine's Pound-for-Pound World Top-10 Boxers
(Stats as of May 4, 2009)

Richard Hatton, MBE, famous as Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton, is a world-class professional boxer and the current Ring Magazine Junior Welterweight Champion. He is the 10th best fighter in the world according to Ring's Magazine's Pound-for-Pound Top 10 Rankings. Hatton was born in Stockport, Greater Manchester on October 6, 1978.
Hatton's biggest fight in his career was against Floyd Mayweather Jr. on December 8, 2007, which Hatton lost by a tenth round knockout. Before the fight, Hatton (43-0-0, 31 KO) and Mayweather (38-0-0, 24 KO) were both undefeated, prompting the fight to be promoted as "Undefeated". Hatton was then The Ring Magazine and IBO Light Welterweight Champion while Mayweather was The Ring Magazine Welterweight Champion, WBC Welterweight Champion, and the #1 pound for pound fighter in the world. The title in line was Mayweather's WBC Welterweight Championship.
Hatton is scheduled to fight the current WBC Lightweight Champion and the current #1 pound-for-pound boxer in the world Manny Pacquiao on May 2, 2009. However, the fight is currently in jeopardy because Pacquiao's camp demanded a 60-40 share while Hatton's camp insisted a 50-50 share. Freddie Roach of Pacquiao's camp has stated that if a 55/45 share doesn't materialize favoring Pacquiao, they will consider a fight against Floyd Mayweather, Jr. instead.
On January 23, 2009, Hatton's camp was able to convince Pacquiao's camp for a 52%-48% split, plus a $12 million purse, in favor of Pacquiao.
On May 2, 2009, Hatton faced Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. Hatton fought as an undefeated champion at the light welterweight division, while it was Pacquiao's 5th weight category climb. Still, Hatton was defeated by Pacquiao in the 2nd round by a KO victory, after knocking Hatton down twice in the first round.
