Ryuji Imada is a Japanese professional golfer who competes on the U.S. based PGA Tour. He was born in Mihara, Hiroshima, Japan on October 19, 1976.
When Imada was 14, he came to the United States to attend a golf academy for Asian players in Tampa. His instructor was Richard Abele, who later on became his custodian. Under Abele's mentorship, Imada started amassing major wins on the Amateur Golf Circuit, culminating to his win in the final stage of the 1997 U.S. Amateur Public Links. His achievements secured him a scholarship at the University of Georgia, where he helped the Georgia Bulldogs win the 1999 NCAA Men's Golf Championship.
In 1999 Imada turned professional, playing mostly on the Nationwide Tour. He tasted his first victory the next season, winning the 2000 BUY.COM Virginia Beach Open. In 2004 he captured his second Nationwide Tour win, the 2004 BMW Charity Pro-Am at The Cliffs.
In 2008, Imada got his first PGA Tour victory. He won the 2008 AT&T Classic at TPC Sugarloaf with two strokes ahead of Kenny Perry. The win moved him into the top 50 in the World Golf Rankings for the first time.
