Shen Xue is a Chinese professional figure skater who competes internationally in pair skating with her partner and husband Zhao Hongbo. She was born on November 13, 1978 in Harbin, Heilongjiang, China.
Shen began skating together with Zhao in 1992. They competed at their first Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan in 1998, where they finished 5th. The next year, they competed in the 1999 World Figure Skating Championships and won a Silver Medal, becoming the first Chinese team to win in a World Championship.
Shen and Zhao won their first Olympic Medal in the 2002 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. In 2006, despite Zhao's recent Achilles tendon injury, the pair managed to win their second Olympic Bronze Medal.
At the Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, Shen and Zhao set a new world record for the overall combined score to clinch the Olympic Gold Medal. They became the first Chinese skaters in any figure skating discipline to win an Olympic Gold. After the event, Shen and Zhao publicly announced their retirement from competitive skating.
