Ariza entered the 2004 NBA Draft at age 19 after one season in UCLA. He was drafted by the Knicks in the second round, as the 43rd overall pick. On February 22, 2006, he was traded to the Orlando Magic along with Penny Hardaway in exchange for Steve Francis.

On November 20, 2007, Ariza was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Brian Cook and Maurice Evans. After helping the Lakers win their 15th NBA title in 2009, beating the Orlando Magic in five games, Ariza agreed to a multi-year, $33 million contract with the Houston Rockets.

 Early Life

Ariza attended Westchester High School in Los Angeles, where, as a junior, he combined with teammates and fellow future NBA players Hassan Adams, Brandon Heath, Bobby Brown and Gabriel Pruitt to lead the Comets to the California State championship.

After one season at UCLA, Ariza was a second round draft choice (43rd overall) of the New York Knicks in the 2004 NBA Draft.
