Camp Moves Me is the American Camp Association’s ambitious goal to unite all of us who understand the value of the camp experience in a nation-wide fundraising campaign to send more children to camp. All of us who work in camp, have gone to camp, have been parents of campers, or just love the camp experience are united in our support of the Camp Movement. It is this movement that has educated children for generations, and it is this movement that has the ability to change the world. To further this crusade, we must move together. Join ACA ‘s first ever, nationwide, fundraising effort aimed at celebrating the spirit of camp while raising dollars to send more children to ACA-accredited camps across the country.
Who will benefit from your participation? Many stand to benefit from these efforts. First, children across the country will benefit. If we are to reach our 2020 Vision, we need to take strides now to make the camp experience available to all. All dollars raised will go back to ACA’s field offices and affiliates to support the camper scholarship programs in that region through ACA’s Send a Child to Camp program. Second, the cause of camp will benefit as we raise public awareness around this unique endeavor. Finally, you will benefit by getting active!
In this per-mile fundraiser, the following activities are allowed: Running, Walking, Hiking, Cycling, Wheelchair, Mountain Biking. Here's how it works:
The American Camp Association is a community of youth development professionals who have joined together to share our knowledge and experience and to ensure the quality of camp experience around the world. Because of our diverse 9,000 plus membership and our exceptional programs, children and adults have the opportunity to learn powerful lessons in community, character-building, skill development, and healthy living — lessons that can be learned nowhere else but at camp.
The camp experience is a part of America’s heritage and culture. Since 1861, we have impacted more than 500 million children. Today, many institutions have abandoned children and youth or have left them inside with electronic gadgets. Our society has limited the access to natural environments and reduced the time adults spend with children and youth—and offers fewer and fewer authentic human connections. Children, youth, and families need an advocate. We must not fail to describe what we do as a critical part of the continuum of care for young people in the United States. Our ability to provide a hands-on, experiential, nature-based, community experience is unique.
Our mission is to enrich the lives of children, youth and adults through the camp experience, and we will be guided by this mission as we boldly pursue our 20/20 vision.
Our 20/20 vision is a commitment to serve 20 million by the year 2020. Today, 10 million children and youth go to camp annually. Yet, we only directly impact 3 million of those experiences. By 2020, we want no fewer than 20 million children going to camp annually with the ACA camp community directly impacting the lives of those 20 million children.
